On the 11th was my first day of my internship. I received my ID badge and I was also given access to data centers. There are few successes such as meeting co-workers and understanding that there is no conflict between us. At first I felt like there would be a lot for me to learn, but as I talk to the employees more and more I realize they are getting more dependent on me. I thought I was in a paid internship, but when I kept hearing my supervisor (Jerry) talk about volunteering and telling me to talk to the volunteer office about my hours, I realized it was an unpaid internship. I was expecting to be paid and ready to work. Although I am not getting paid I am still ready to work and put my efforts in, but I don't want to feel that I am being taken advantage of. It really stressed me out because I am a senior with a student loan debt. I was hoping this internship will help lessen the burden. I also spent money just to get uniform that would be appropriate for this job. My first day I did not really learn much just sit in a office and watch the employees work, and follow then as they go trouble shoot computers. All the work the employees are currently doing is exactly what I did back when I was working at State College as a Lab Consultant. Lastly, I did not even receive an actual account to work as a trouble shooter nor a login account into the computers. If I am not getting paid for this internship I really wish it would at least teach me something by the end of it.
